From Hell, Prologue - Chapter 2

Welcome to the Comics Course, a podcast distributed form of Graphical Literature in Society & History, Lit 209 from Miskatonic University's remote education program. We are presented by Professor Hamby and his T.A. Rowan.

In From Hell we meet a fictionalized cast of historical figures including a celebrated surgeon, a painter, a crown prince, and a shop-girl. As From Hell unfolds a foundation is laid for blackmail, murder, and Freemasonry. In this episode, we contrast the art of the original versus the colored version and discuss how the major themes are introduced with the story. Additionally, we talk about the ongoing metaphor of the gulls in the story and the use of time as story element for displaying persistent cultural issues in English society.
